BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Iraqi authorities are compiling a new list of suspects in public-funds waste and corruption cases in coordination with international financial-tracking experts, an official familiar with the matter said. A commission of international specialists based in Baghdad is reviewing documents across multiple financial files alongside an Iraqi government team.
The list under preparation includes two former prime ministers, current and former members of parliament, directors general and officials at various levels, according to the source. The names have not been finalized, and no legal steps have been confirmed against those identified.
The review extends beyond domestic files to cover the transfer of funds abroad and movements between accounts. Officials said the work is being carried out under a corruption crackdown launched on June 28 under the name "Operation Fajr."
The inquiry also covers contracts and files in several institutions, including the oil, health and electricity ministries, the officials added, noting that multiple arrest and detention warrants have been carried out.
