BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraq’s parliament economy, industry and trade committee has set out urgent measures to be applied in the coming period to revive local industry, committee member Safa al-Jabiri said.
Al-Jabiri said the government has based its local industry development agenda on the 2024-2028 Comprehensive Development Plan. He added that the committee will follow up on the Industry Ministry and review the plan the minister will present under the government program.
The committee also decided to clarify priorities, monitor indicators every three months and request a report from the ministry every four months, al-Jabiri said.
Planning Ministry spokesman Abdulzehra al-Hindawi said difficulties in the business and investment environment, weak productivity, outdated equipment and local markets being flooded with cheap goods have affected the industrial sector.
