Iraq Mandates Generator Filters, Gives Owners Six Months to Comply

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraq's Environment Minister Serev Abdul Wahid announced Monday that the ministry has issued a decision requiring all private and public generators to install filters aimed at reducing gas emissions. The minister said in a statement that establishments have six months from the date of the announcement to comply. Those failing to meet the requirement by the deadline will face strict legal action, he added. The ministry will establish a monitoring committee to conduct inspections and ensure compliance. Establishments found operating non-compliant generators will be subject to legal penalties, the statement said. The decision covers both private-sector businesses and government entities. The ministry reiterated that legal proceedings will be initiated against those who do not comply with the new requirements.
