Iraq Interior Ministry Opens Investigation into Dhi Qar Hospital Incident

BAGHDAD, Iraq — The Iraqi Ministry of Interior opened an investigation Monday into an altercation between a security team at a hospital in Dhi Qar province and a group of citizens. The ministry said in a statement that the incident occurred when citizens affiliated with one party to a local dispute sought treatment at the hospital in the Kela Sikar district. A fight broke out between the citizens and security personnel assigned to the facility. Four members of the security team have been detained pending the outcome of the investigation, according to the statement. Dr. Hussein al-Awadi, a senior ministry official, ordered an immediate review of all circumstances surrounding the incident. The ministry said it would not tolerate negligence or violations and reaffirmed its commitment to protecting citizens' dignity. Authorities will pursue legal measures to safeguard healthcare institutions and maintain public order, the statement said.
