Iraq exports fuel oil via Jordan for first time, oil ministry says

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraq has begun exporting fuel oil through Jordan for the first time, the Oil Ministry said. Ministry spokesperson Salim al-Rikabi confirmed the shipments began last month but did not disclose export volumes. Fuel oil is a heavy product obtained during the distillation of crude oil. The new route adds an alternative to Iraq's existing port and pipeline options for moving refined products abroad, alongside its predominantly crude-based oil exports. Iraq exports the bulk of its daily oil output as crude, with fuel oil shipments making up a small share of the country's refinery output, according to the ministry. The ministry did not immediately provide further details on the volume, frequency or commercial terms of the new shipments.
