BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraq's Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) held a technical and legal meeting to review whether the national identity card can be used in voting. According to a commission statement, the committee assessing the merging of the national ID card with the electronic biometric voter card met under Deputy Chairman Judge Fiyad Yasin Hussein, with board members Judge Abbas Fatlawi and Judge Imad Faris in attendance. Technical teams from the electoral commission were also present.
The commission said a detailed report on integrating the national ID card with the biometric card was submitted during the meeting. It added that a letter was to be sent to the Ministry of Interior to complete outstanding technical requirements.
