KARBALA, Iraq โ Iraq's Federal Intelligence and Investigation Directorate said 25 foreign nationals were detained in Karbala after a fight broke out among visitors from different nationalities. In a statement, the directorate said intelligence and counter-terrorism units in the city identified the suspects as participants in a brawl that erupted during religious visitation ceremonies.
The suspects were taken into custody and their statements were recorded and approved by judicial authorities, according to the statement. Officials called on visitors to fully comply with security instructions and to disregard unverified reports.
The directorate said necessary measures were in place to ensure the visit concluded safely and peacefully. Security forces in Karbala have continued inspection and control operations across multiple parts of the city, particularly during pilgrimage periods, to maintain order.
