BAGHDAD, Iraq โ€” Iraq's Council of Ministers has declared Thursday, June 25, a public holiday across all ministries and state institutions. The decision coincides with Ashura and commemorations marking the 10th of Muharram, the anniversary of the martyrdom of Imam Hussein. The council approved the suspension of regular government working hours on that date, with the holiday extended beyond ministries to cover public institutions as well. Officials said the timing was chosen to align with the Ashura memorial ceremonies. The holiday applies only to the central government, with no additional arrangement made for the private sector. The directive will be implemented in the capital Baghdad and in other cities hosting major commemorations, including Karbala and Najaf.
