BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Iraq's internal security forces on Tuesday released video footage showing the moment "Zeyd al-Muwahhab" was taken into custody in Turkish territory, accusing him of insulting military personnel and institutions. The footage documents the initial moments of his detention, which authorities said was carried out legally and in accordance with procedures after a dedicated intelligence operation.
A security source said on Monday that al-Muwahhab had been tracked for years over organized campaigns of insults and defamation directed at officers and military and security institutions through social media platforms. The source said the posts caused serious damage to the reputation of a large number of security personnel and commanders.
Iraqi authorities said the operation was part of a long-running intelligence pursuit targeting suspects identified in cases involving state security and official institutions, as well as fugitives abroad. No further details on his potential extradition or prosecution were immediately available.
