BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Iraq's Communications Ministry blocked a transfer of 116 billion Iraqi dinars (approximately $88.5 million) to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, Communications Minister Mustafa Sanad announced Monday.
Sanad said the transfer was halted through an emergency audit intervention before receiving final approval. He described the action as a preventive measure designed to protect public resources from waste and unauthorized transfers.
The decision falls within new regulations intended to tighten financial oversight and prevent suspected corruption cases, according to the ministry.
The ministry has not disclosed the identities of the individuals or companies involved in the transaction. The file is expected to be forwarded to Iraq's Commission of Integrity and the judiciary, the report said. Commission Chairman Haidar Hanoun is expected to comment on the matter.
