BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Iraq's Media and Communications Commission has barred political analyst Bashar Haqim from all media appearances across local and foreign outlets for one year, citing statements deemed harmful to the country's international relations.
The commission said the ban, effective from the date of issuance, covers digital platforms and podcasts. Media outlets that violate the order will face legal liability, according to the decision.
Commission officials justified the measure by pointing to repeated violations, noting that Haqim had continued the same line of commentary despite prior action against him. No official response from Haqim or his representatives had been issued by the time of publication.
The commission's order is among the few instances in which Iraq's media regulator has imposed a direct broadcast ban on a political commentator.
