BAGHDAD, Iraq โ€” Iraq's Ministry of Planning has announced a five-year ban on imports of motorcycles and their spare parts, issued by the Council of Ministers. Fayad al-Dulaimi, head of the Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control, said the measure is part of a new technical policy to regulate motorcycle imports and ensure that products meet Iraqi standards. The restrictions will apply to both gasoline-powered and electric motorcycles, with the organization set to enforce Iraqi Standard 5161 and the 2022 technical specification numbered 170. Al-Dulaimi said imported products would be assessed for compliance with national standards and that the organization was coordinating with relevant agencies on technical and inspection steps. Officials said the policy is intended to protect consumers and strengthen public safety. The Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control will continue applying quality and conformity requirements as part of efforts to regulate the market.
