BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Iraq's Military Intelligence Directorate said five people wanted on terrorism charges were arrested on Saturday in coordinated operations in Diyala, Kirkuk and Nineveh provinces. The directorate said in a written statement that the suspects were captured through intelligence-based preventive operations.
The operations were carried out within the areas of responsibility of the 1st and 14th Infantry Divisions and the 23rd Commando Division, with surveillance and security units establishing tight ambushes based on intelligence leads, the statement said. Judicial arrest warrants had previously been issued against the five suspects under Article 4/1 of Iraq's Counter-Terrorism Law.
The directorate added that the detained suspects have been handed over to the relevant investigative authorities to complete legal procedures. No further details on the suspects' identities or affiliations were immediately provided.
