Iraq arrests 29 suspects in 48-hour border, checkpoint crackdown

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraq's National Security Advisory conducted 31 separate arrest operations at border crossings and checkpoints over the past 48 hours, arresting 29 suspects on charges including drug offenses, forgery, terrorism and residency violations, spokesman Arshad al-Hakim said. The operations also led to the seizure of 3,103 pills found in violation of regulations and the destruction of 1,450 cartons of food unfit for human consumption, al-Hakim told the official Iraqi News Agency. Separately, a suspect wanted under Article 4 of Iraq's Counter-Terrorism Law was extradited to authorities at Baghdad International Airport after being brought in from abroad, al-Hakim said, without naming the individual or providing further details.
