Iraq aims to restore oil output to pre-war levels within two months

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraq is working to bring its oil production back to pre-war levels within one to two months, according to oil sector officials cited in reports. The recovery follows a period of disruption during which output declined, with maintenance and security operations now underway at production sites to gradually raise output. Officials said the country's existing infrastructure remains largely intact and that technical teams are working to bring damaged wells back online. Authorities are seeking a rapid increase in output at the main oil fields in southern and northern Iraq, the officials added. Iraq is also preparing to expand its daily export capacity in order to fully comply with its OPEC quota, according to the reports. Sector representatives said production figures in the coming weeks would clarify whether the targeted output levels can be reached.
