NAJAF, Iraq โ The head of Iraq's Supreme Committee for Visitor Services, Kays al-Muhammadawi, announced on Thursday that a security and services plan for the Arbaeen commemoration marking the 40th day after the martyrdom of Imam Hussein has been put into effect. Speaking at a press conference in Najaf's al-Awtad area attended by local security commanders, al-Muhammadawi said the plan entered force after the completion of all security, service and logistical preparations.
Security and service agencies have finalized arrangements to ensure the smooth movement of millions of visitors heading to Karbala, maintain a safe environment and provide the necessary services, he said. Al-Muhammadawi said the plan's primary objectives are to secure the large crowds arriving for the commemoration and to put in place arrangements that prevent any disruption to their movement.
The Arbaeen march draws millions of pilgrims each year to the shrine of Imam Hussein in Karbala, converging from across Iraq and abroad. Al-Muhammadawi did not provide additional details on the duration of the plan or the specific deployment of security forces.
