WASHINGTON, United States — TEHRAN — An Iranian conservative newspaper, Khorasan, has argued that any possible agreement between Tehran and Washington would not resolve the underlying disputes between the two countries but would instead offer a temporary ceasefire to allow both sides to rebuild their strength.
In an analysis, the paper said the tension between Iran and the United States and its allies has reached an "existential struggle" stage. It said the expected deal aims to end the current conflict but would not resolve outstanding disputes between the two sides.
According to the analysis, the release of frozen assets or recognition of Iranian sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz would not be the real gains of such an agreement. The paper said its true value would be buying time for both sides to improve their offensive and defensive capabilities, and that the struggle would ultimately end in a decisive victory for one side.
