Iran sets July 4-9 farewell and funeral schedule for late Supreme Leader Khamenei

According to the committee's announcement, a public farewell will be held at Imam Khomeini Mosque in Tehran on Saturday and Sunday, July 4-5, where Khamenei's body will lie in state. The official funeral ceremony in Tehran is set for Monday, July 6, followed by a ceremony in the city of Qom on Tuesday, July 7. The committee said Khamenei's body will be transported to Mashhad on Thursday, July 9, and buried at the Imam Reza Shrine following the final ceremony. Iranian media have reported that Khamenei was killed in a joint U.S.-Israeli air operation codenamed "Legendary Fury" at the presidential compound in Tehran in February 2026, along with family members. The ceremonies had been postponed for months, the committee said, citing security conditions and the course of military hostilities, and preparations have now begun.
