Iran's Pezeshkian says domestic critics oppose US talks, accuses Washington of breaking commitments

TEHRAN, Iran — President Masoud Pezeshkian said on Tuesday that the negotiations underway with the United States face criticism from inside Iran, telling reporters in Tehran that the results achieved so far had exceeded expectations but that Washington had violated its commitments. Pezeshkian said the memorandum of understanding under discussion focuses on reopening the Strait of Hormuz to oil exports, and accused the other side of straying from the agreed framework. In remarks that also touched on domestic politics, Pezeshkian said the enemy had waged a broad campaign aimed at producing social collapse, adding that national unity and cohesion had frustrated those plans. He said a party unable to achieve its military objectives had turned to dialogue, and that attacks on infrastructure were intended to bring the country down, efforts he said internal solidarity had blocked. Pezeshkian added that his consultations with Iran's Supreme Leader had intensified and that decisions are being taken in line with the Leader's guidance.
