Iran's Khamenei appoints ex-IRGC commander to Supreme National Security Council

TEHRAN, Iran — Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei's official website announced on Sunday that Mohsen Rehayi, a foreign policy adviser and former commander in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), has been appointed as his representative to the Supreme National Security Council, chaired by Khamenei's son Mojtaba Khamenei. Under Iran's constitution, the Supreme National Security Council serves as the country's highest security decision-making body, with the supreme leader acting as commander-in-chief of the armed forces. The council is chaired by the president, while Mojtaba Khamenei serves as its deputy chairman. Rehayi previously held a command position in the IRGC and has worked as an adviser on foreign policy matters. The official website said the newly appointed representative will participate in the council's work on behalf of Khamenei's office, establishing a direct line of representation between the supreme leader and the country's top security and defense structure.
