TEHRAN, Iran โ Two cities in Iran's western Ilam province recorded some of the highest temperatures globally on Sunday, according to data cited by Hemsehri Online. Dehloran registered 48.7ยฐC, the second-highest reading worldwide, while Mehran followed at 48.6ยฐC in third place.
High temperatures also gripped the southwestern Khuzestan province. Abadan and Omidiyeh each recorded 48.1ยฐC, ranking fifth and sixth globally. Safiabad Dezful reached 47.8ยฐC, placing seventh, and Bostan logged 47.5ยฐC at fourteenth.
The heat wave extended across much of Iran, affecting Varamin south of the capital Tehran as well as Isfahan, Yazd, Kerman and Sistan-Baluchestan, where temperatures ranged between 41ยฐC and 47ยฐC. Low-lying and border-area settlements in the region repeatedly appeared in the upper tiers of international meteorological station rankings.
The figures come as Middle East temperatures typically climb during this period of the year, with several Iranian cities regularly placing among the world's hottest in international rankings. No further details on the data source were immediately available.
