TEHRAN, Iran โ€” At least nine people were killed and three seriously wounded in a missile and drone attack near Sulaymaniyah early Friday, the Iranian Kurdish opposition group Komala said. The strike struck the village of Zergwez, targeting the group's positions. Abdullah Azarbar, a member of Komala's Political Bureau and head of its organizing committee, said the attack began around 6 a.m. and involved eight high-yield missiles, three of which hit directly the headquarters where the victims fell. He said the group suspects Iran carried out the strike, though Tehran has not claimed responsibility. Kurdistan Region security authorities confirmed the strikes, saying seven missiles hit three separate locations in the Sulaymaniyah area: four on Zergwez, one on Kisredi and two near Tal Kobani in the Kirdah area. Teams were conducting damage assessments. Separately, the Kurdistan Region's counterterrorism unit said coalition forces intercepted and destroyed eight armed drones in Erbil's airspace, with no casualties reported.
