MUSCAT, Oman โ€” Iran and Oman reiterated their commitment to international law governing navigation and maritime services in the Strait of Hormuz during the first meeting of a joint committee held in Muscat, Oman's Foreign Ministry said. The ministry said the committee discussed future governance of the strait and examined ways to strengthen coordination on issues linked to the waterway. The two sides confirmed their adherence to international law in navigation and maritime services, according to the statement. Oman's Foreign Minister said contacts were continuing to promote peace, understanding and harmony, and that Muscat attached importance to keeping navigation in the strait safe and free for all. The minister added that any arrangement concerning the strait should remain within the framework of international legal rules, and that Oman was in agreement with Iran on adherence to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
