Hashd al-Shaabi says it detained Islamic State member in Anbar

BAGHDAD, Iraq — The Popular Mobilization Forces (Hashd al-Shaabi) said on Thursday evening that one of its operations in Anbar province resulted in the detention of an Islamic State (ISIS) member. The group said in a written statement that its Directorate of Investigation and Intelligence, part of the Security and Discipline Department, carried out the operation after obtaining the required approvals from the relevant judicial authorities. According to the statement, the operation took place in the Amiriyah Fallujah subdistrict, southwest of Fallujah, and the suspect's location was identified through field surveillance. The group said security forces captured the individual after detailed intelligence work and a planned operation, and that no disruption occurred during the raid. Hashd al-Shaabi said the detained person will be referred to the competent authorities for legal proceedings. No further details about the suspect or the case were immediately available.
