Hashd al-Shaabi rejects accusations against commander Fayadh

BAGHDAD, Iraq — The Popular Mobilization Forces (Hashd al-Shaabi) rejected accusations made by some politicians against its chief, Faleh al-Fayadh, calling the claims "baseless allegations unsupported by evidence or fact." In a written statement, the paramilitary organization firmly denied accusations that Fayadh had prior knowledge of a recent attack and failed to inform military units. The group said its forces have been on alert since events began in the area and that all units were instructed to exercise maximum vigilance two days before the attack. The statement added that those warnings prevented significant casualties and damage. Hashd al-Shaabi said the 4th Battalion of the 30th Brigade failed to take the required precautions and suffered the highest number of fatalities in the assault. The organization said an investigation has been opened into the battalion to determine the lapses and responsibilities involved. The statement also said Hashd al-Shaabi reserves the right to pursue legal action against individuals spreading false information and making unfounded accusations.
