Hamas reiterates commitment to Gaza ceasefire second phase roadmap

CAIRO, Egypt — CAIRO — Hamas said on Sunday it remains committed to the roadmap for the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement and will work responsibly with mediators and the "Peace Council" to implement the 15 agreed points. The movement said the timeline would be clarified as implementation proceeds. In a statement, Hamas listed the conditions it says must be met for full implementation: a complete ceasefire, an end to attacks, the withdrawal of Israeli forces, the opening of border crossings, the entry of relief and shelter supplies, the launch of reconstruction and the start of work by the National Committee. It also urged mediators, guarantors and the Peace Council to ensure all parties honor their commitments and prevent violations that could derail the deal. Hamas added that it would continue to engage positively in efforts to end the suffering of Palestinians and safeguard their national rights. The announcement comes after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu pushed back against the U.S.-backed plan, saying Israel would not withdraw from Gaza unless Hamas's weapons are "truly" handed over. Hamas said on Friday it had agreed to surrender its weapons under the second phase of U.S. President Donald Trump's Gaza plan, and the Peace Council published a roadmap envisioning Hamas's disarmament and a phased Israeli withdrawal. The council told Netanyahu that Israel's pullout would begin only after Hamas turns over all its arms.
