BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Gold prices climbed in Thursday trade as the US dollar and Treasury yields retreated. Investors are awaiting Friday's nonfarm payrolls report, which could shape expectations for the Federal Reserve's next monetary policy decision.
Spot gold rose 0.5% to $4,409.97 an ounce by 02:19 GMT, recovering after touching its lowest level in roughly a month in the previous session. US gold futures advanced 0.9% to $4,455.30. The weaker dollar and lower Treasury yields, which had recently neared multi-year highs, made dollar-denominated gold more affordable for holders of other currencies.
Markets are focused on Friday's payrolls data following an ADP report showing limited growth in US private-sector wages in August. Attention is also turning to the Federal Reserve's policy meeting scheduled for September 15โ16.
Among other precious metals, spot silver gained 0.6% to $65.74 an ounce and platinum added 0.6% to $1,770.88, while palladium held steady at $1,354.
