The German Football Association (DFB) confirmed on Friday that it is in talks with Jürgen Klopp over the vacant Germany head coach position following Julian Nagelsmann's resignation. DFB officials said Klopp, the former Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund manager, indicated he is "fundamentally willing" to take the job.
Nagelsmann stepped down from the role, opening the position for which Klopp emerged as the leading candidate. The DFB said negotiations are ongoing and both sides remain in contact, with no formal agreement announced yet.
Klopp left Liverpool at the end of the 2023-24 season and said in 2024 he was taking a break from club management. He previously led Dortmund to two Bundesliga titles and a Champions League final, and won the Champions League and Premier League with Liverpool.
Germany have underperformed at recent international tournaments, failing to progress beyond the group stage at the 2024 European Championship on home soil. No further details on the talks were immediately available.
