French Football Federation President Philippe Diallo did not end speculation over who will succeed Didier Deschamps as France national team coach, telling L'Equipe that the appointment will be announced after the 2026 World Cup. Diallo declined to name any candidate, including Zinedine Zidane, whose name has been linked to the role.
Diallo pushed back against earlier remarks that had drawn criticism, saying they had been misinterpreted. He noted that he had not mentioned any specific coach and described his relationship with Deschamps as very good.
Deschamps confirmed he will step down when his contract expires after the 2026 tournament, a decision Diallo said was the coach's own and one that ruled out a renewal. Deschamps led France to the 2018 World Cup title, the 2022 final, the 2021 UEFA Nations League trophy, and the 2026 World Cup semifinals.
