SCAmpaigns on social media are targeting Iraqi users with fake promises of gold and cash prizes, according to cyber security specialists. The accounts imitate official institutions and direct people to share posts and enter personal information before demanding advance payments for a supposed reward.
After money is transferred, the accounts are immediately blocked, the specialists said. They said the fraudulent profiles are being created with artificial intelligence and run by professional networks.
The specialists said the goal is not only to collect money but also to build a large database of Iraqi phone numbers. They warned that legitimate institutions do not ask for advance payment and urged users not to trust suspicious campaigns.
