BAGHDAD, Iraq โ€” Ahmed al-Jubouri, head of the al-Janahir Watani Party and a former governor of Saladin province, was arrested in Baghdad on corruption charges, Iraq's state news agency reported, citing a senior source. Security forces detained him in the capital as part of a probe into allegations of corruption. Al-Jubouri served as Saladin governor from 2013 to 2014 and as minister of state for provinces from 2014 to 2015. He then sat in the Iraqi parliament from 2015 to 2022. His arrest follows the reopening of case files linked to his time administering Saladin. The State Administration Alliance reiterated its support for Prime Minister Ali Falih al-Zaydi's government to continue its anti-corruption efforts targeting alleged misuse of public funds and abuse of office. It remained unclear whether the investigation would extend beyond al-Jubouri to other figures or files from his earlier tenure.
