BAGHDAD, Iraq — Five people were killed and one was injured when a vehicle overturned and caught fire on the road linking Diwaniya and Dhi Qar in southern Iraq, the Iraqi Civil Defense Directorate said on Wednesday.
In a written statement, the directorate said its Diwaniya teams responded to the crash in the Third River area. Emergency crews pulled the injured survivor from the wreckage and transferred the person to hospital for treatment.
Civil defense teams completed firefighting operations and recovered the bodies from the wreckage. The directorate said the case has been referred to the relevant authorities under standard legal procedures.
No further details on the cause of the crash were immediately available.
