Fire destroys 200 dunams of wheat in Nineveh’s Rabia district

BAGHDAD, Iraq — A fire that broke out Friday evening in wheat fields in the village of Alakane, in Nineveh province’s Rabia district, was brought under control by civil defense teams, a source at the Nineveh Civil Defense Directorate said. The source said the blaze engulfed roughly 200 dunams of planted wheat. Firefighters prevented the flames from spreading and protected an additional 500 dunams of surrounding farmland, according to the source. Civil defense teams were dispatched quickly to the scene and fully extinguished the fire. The cause of the fire has not been determined. Authorities said relevant agencies have launched an investigation into how it started. No further details were immediately available.
