SULAYMANIYAH, Iraq โ A large fire broke out early Tuesday at a fuel depot in the Tanjero area of Sulaymaniyah, burning 34 gasoline tankers and four gas tankers, according to a depot source. The blaze is believed to have started when spilled fuel ignited, with flames quickly spreading to the tankers and surrounding areas.
More than three million liters of gasoline were reduced to ash, the source said. Firefighters continued efforts to contain the flames due to the large amount of flammable material stored at the site.
Two people sustained burn injuries of varying degrees; one was taken to hospital for treatment, while the other's condition was described as stable. Security forces established a perimeter around the area and urged drivers, particularly on roads near Tanjero, to use alternate routes.
The source noted that the depot is one of the main fuel supply centers in Sulaymaniyah and said the fire could affect fuel transport and distribution. Officials had not yet released an official statement on losses or damage.
