Explosion at industrial city south of Tehran injures 18

TEHRAN, Iran — An explosion and subsequent fire at a facility in Shamsabad Industrial City, south of the capital, injured 18 people, according to the Tehran Emergency Organization. Spokesperson Shervin Tabrizi said seven ambulances and an ambulance bus were dispatched to the site. The blast also caused damage at a nearby ambulance base, though no personnel there were wounded. Davud Vali, a board member of the Shamsabad Industrial City administration, said the fire began in a fuel tank at a facility housing aluminum factories and spread to other parts of the complex. Vali added that firefighting efforts were continuing alongside an investigation into the cause of the incident. The Shamsabad Industrial City administration said the accident had no connection to any enemy attack and was the result of technical causes. The injured were transported to surrounding hospitals, and officials said damage assessments were underway after the fire was brought under control.
