Erdogan gifts gold-plated pistol to Trump at NATO summit

ANKARA, Türkiye — President Recep Tayyip Erdogan presented US President Donald Trump with a custom-made, gold-plated pistol during the NATO summit, Turkish media reported. The gift, a "Gümüşhay .357 Magnum" model, was presented in a wooden case bearing the Turkish flag and the NATO emblem. Erdogan is said to have given similar pistols to other NATO leaders attending the summit, though the version received by Trump was the only one finished in gold plating. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney drew laughs when he described the maple syrup he received from Erdogan as "humble" in contrast to the Turkish leader's other gifts. Some Western officials said the firearms remained in Ankara because of local weapons-carrying regulations. Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said he would subject the pistol he received to Sweden's legal transfer procedures.
