Erbil to Fine Drivers Seen Littering from Vehicles on Camera

Erbil Traffic Directorate said drivers who throw trash from vehicles onto roads will be identified through security cameras and fined, in a new enforcement measure aimed at protecting the environment and keeping the city clean. The rule takes effect on Tuesday, 26 May 2026 at 18.00.
From that time, throwing rubbish, waste, tin cans, beverage bottles or similar materials from vehicles onto streets and roads will be treated as a traffic violation. The directorate said the new practice is designed to curb littering and reinforce public cleanliness standards.
The Erbil Traffic Directorate said violations will be recorded through speed monitoring and security cameras. It added that heavy fines will be imposed on those found to have committed the offence.
The directorate also urged drivers to comply with traffic rules, help preserve the cityโs clean appearance and show responsibility toward environmental cleanliness.
