Electricity Minister Urges Rapid Completion of Gulf Interconnection Project

Electricity Minister Ali Saadi Wehib met with the Gulf Interconnection Board to push forward completion and commissioning of the Gulf electricity interconnection project. The talks focused on the technical details of the 500 megawatt line and the project’s final implementation stages. Wehib said all necessary resources would be provided to ensure the project is delivered, adding that support for the scheme would continue. He stressed the need to accelerate the procedures required for implementation and remove all obstacles delaying progress. The meeting centered on steps needed to bring the interconnection into service as a key addition to Iraq’s electricity infrastructure. The 500 megawatt capacity was discussed as part of the technical framework for the final phase. Wehib also underlined that the ministry would work to facilitate the administrative and technical measures required for the project. He called for swift action to complete the Gulf connection and put it into operation as soon as possible.
