DIYALA, Iraq โ Khanaqin district governor Jawad Faydullah has given private electricity generator owners one hour to resume operations, warning that non-compliant generators will be dismantled and replaced with leased units.
Faydullah said owners had set prices at 10,000โ13,000 Iraqi dinars per ampere, while a provincial decision providing free fuel for July and August should bring the rate down to 7,000 dinars per ampere. He said Khanaqin uses a smart-meter system and that generators are required to operate between 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.
Separately, private generator owners in Anbar province shut down their units to protest June tariff rates. Anbar local government spokesman Muwaiid al-Dulaimi said the Council of Ministers' decision on free fuel applies only to July and August and does not cover June.
