Dhi Qar ranks fourth among world's hottest cities in past 24 hours

DHI QAR, Iraq — Dhi Qar recorded a temperature of 49.7°C over the past 24 hours, placing it fourth among the world's hottest cities, according to local reports. Attapeu in Laos, Mehran in Iran and Kairouan in Tunisia topped the list. The province's Rifai district, a small settlement north of Dhi Qar city, also appeared on the same ranking at eighth place with a reading of 49.2°C. Temperatures approaching 50°C during this period are considered typical for the region's summer months. Authorities have urged residents to avoid direct sun exposure during midday hours and to drink sufficient water. Health officials warned that elderly people and those with chronic illnesses face a heightened risk of heatstroke and should take additional precautions.
