Decomposed body found in car near Iran team's training site in Tijuana

TIJUANA, Mexico — A heavily decomposed body was discovered in the trunk of a parked vehicle near the training site of Iran's national football team in the northwestern Mexican city of Tijuana, the French news agency AFP reported. The team, preparing for the 2026 World Cup, has trained daily at Caliente Stadium since Sunday, and the parking lot where the body was found is across from the stadium, about a one-minute drive from the team's hotel. Police opened a gray Toyota SUV in the lot, releasing a strong odor, and specialists in white protective suits removed the body after examining the scene. A preliminary report said the victim was found wrapped in a black bag in the back of the vehicle, with signs of beating on the body. Tijuana is among Mexico's most violent cities, with official figures recording more than 1,200 homicides in 2025. No further details on the victim or the investigation were immediately available.
