Body of young man recovered from river in Duhok's Zakho district

DUHOK, Iraq — Security sources in the Zakho Independent Administration in the Kurdistan Region said a man in his 20s drowned on Sunday evening in the Khabur River after entering the water with friends to escape high temperatures. The sources said the man moved into a deep section of the river where currents were strong and disappeared beneath the water. Civil defense teams were dispatched to the site, recovered his body and transported it to Zakho Emergency Hospital before it was transferred to the forensic medicine unit. Authorities said legal procedures had been initiated to release the body to his family. The same security source said the incident was the 11th drowning recorded within Zakho's boundaries since the start of the year, and that search and rescue teams had saved 18 people from drowning over the same period.
