Body of child who drowned in Tigris River found in Saladin province

SALAHADDIN, Iraq — River police in Saladin province recovered the body of a child who drowned in the Tigris River after hours of search operations, a source with the Saladin River Police said. The child was identified as Hayrullah Hakem Munadi al-Abaydi, a resident of Tel al-Siybat village. The source said rescue teams, river police and local residents took part in the search, which ended in the morning. The body was transferred to a forensic medical institution to complete legal procedures before being handed over to the family. Authorities said an investigation into the incident has been opened. The river police also urged the public, particularly children, to exercise caution and avoid swimming in deep areas or locations with strong currents.
