TIJUANA, Mexico โ A body was discovered in a parked vehicle near the site where Iran's national football team is preparing for the 2026 World Cup, according to local media reports cited by Spanish newspaper AS. The grey Toyota SUV had been left in a parking lot near the Caliente Stadium for several days before security teams were called to the area in response to an odor coming from the vehicle.
The Tijuana prosecutor's office said the body of a man, wrapped in a black sack, was found in the rear trunk of the car and showed signs of violence. Investigators said the vehicle had been stationary at the location since Wednesday and that the situation was only noticed once the smell began to spread.
The Iranian Football Federation and head coach Amir Ghalenoei had not issued an official statement on the incident as of the report. Iran is scheduled to play its first World Cup match against New Zealand early Tuesday and will also face Belgium and Egypt in the group stage.
