BAGHDAD, Iraq โ€” Basra Governor Asaad al-Idani hosted Kuwaiti First Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Fahd Yousef Saud al-Sabah on Saturday at the Safwan border crossing in southern Iraq, the governor's press office said. Akl al-Faraji, head of the Basra Provincial Council's Security Committee, and other security officials also attended the meeting. The talks come days after Kuwait's Defense Ministry said the nearby Al-Abdili border crossing was struck repeatedly by "enemy drones" on Thursday evening, causing only material damage and no injuries. The ministry's statement followed the bombing of the Shalamche area inside Iranian territory, with a similar attack later reported near Al-Abdili. Al-Faraji, who heads the Basra Border Crossings Committee, said Thursday evening that Safwan was closed as a precaution until the security threat subsided. He added that the crossing was not affected by the attack and sustained no damage, with the closure ordered to protect arriving travelers and personnel. No further details on the outcomes of Saturday's meeting were immediately available.
