Basra Community Maintains Century-Old Eid al-Adha Communal Dining Tradition

Residents of the Al-Mutaiha district in Basra continue a century-old tradition of communal dining following Eid al-Adha prayers at the Jabal Mosque. This long-standing practice brings the entire neighborhood together to share a meal, reinforcing local social cohesion. Preparations for the event begin the night before the holiday, with local women coordinating the cooking of traditional dishes. Following the morning prayers, men and children assist in organizing the communal seating and serving arrangements. Turkish Consul General in Basra, Umut Türki, attended this year’s gathering to observe the proceedings. During his visit, he commended the local community for their enduring spirit of solidarity and cooperation.
