Kurdistan Regional Government President Mesrur Barzani held high-level talks in Baghdad with Prime Minister Ali al-Zeydi to set a new roadmap for resolving outstanding disputes between Erbil and the federal government. The meetings focused on political, administrative and technical files seen as central to restoring trust and stabilizing cooperation.
Barzani and Zeydi agreed on the need to strengthen the concept of national partnership and act with a shared sense of responsibility to overcome current political and administrative problems. Zeydi said the government is working on the principle that all Iraqis are partners in the homeland and aims to resolve issues at their root through practical solutions that improve citizens' living standards.
Barzani stressed that any settlement must remain within the constitution, respect the nature of the federal system and protect the rights of the Kurdistan Region. During his visit to Baghdad, he also met Higher Judicial Council President Faik Zeydan and Iraqi Parliament Speaker Mohammed al-Halbusi.
Those meetings addressed judicial independence and the preservation of the federal system. The sides also agreed to coordinate on technical and economic issues, including border crossing management, implementation of the Asycuda system and the oil companies operating in the region.
The Baghdad-Erbil diplomatic engagement is intended to open a new phase of understanding and lay the groundwork for more stable cooperation between the two sides.
