Baghdad police arrest taxi driver who fled after hitting pedestrian

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Police in Baghdad's Karkh district arrested a taxi driver who fled after striking a woman at a roundabout, the Karkh Police Command said Wednesday. According to the statement, officers launched an immediate security operation after the incident, which was captured on surveillance cameras. An investigation team was set up under the supervision of the patrol station's district officer, in coordination with officers from the Horanak Police Center and an investigator. The team reviewed footage from security cameras in the area and collected witness statements, which led to the identification of the vehicle, the driver and his place of residence. Officers were dispatched to the driver's address, where he was taken into custody shortly afterward.
