BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Iraqi security forces arrested a suspect described as "dangerous" during a joint intelligence operation in eastern Baghdad on Thursday, the Baghdad Operations Command said. The command said intelligence units located the suspect's hideout in the Rusafa area, where he was taken into custody and handed over to judicial authorities.
The operation involved a force from the 1st Federal Police Division, according to the statement. Security sources said the suspect had multiple open legal files, including charges of premeditated murder and arms smuggling, and had previously been sentenced in absentia in connection with the killing of a commissioner who had served at Baghdad's Crime Combating Directorate.
During a search of the site, authorities seized a large weapons cache, including more than 300 rockets and a significant quantity of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, the sources said. The command said legal proceedings against the suspect would be completed through the relevant courts. No further details were immediately available.
