BAGHDAD, Iraq โ A Baghdad anti-corruption criminal court recovered approximately $22.9 million in cash hidden inside vertical air-conditioning units at an apartment belonging to former Deputy Oil Minister Adnan Jamili, authorities said. The money was reportedly concealed in the air conditioners at a branch linked to Jamili, who served as deputy minister overseeing liquidation affairs and is currently in detention.
The Supreme Judicial Council said in recent days that the amount seized in the Jamili case had increased and that several officials identified in connection with the matter had been taken into custody. No official confirmation of the latest seizure had been issued at the time of reporting.
Jamili had previously been detained as part of a corruption investigation into irregularities in liquidation files under his supervision. The court proceedings are ongoing, and investigators said they were still examining the seized documents and other evidence in the case.
